Jules Bastien-Lepage Hayatı Eserleri
 

Bir çiftlikte büyüyen sanatçı erken yaşlardan itibaren resim sanatına ilgi duydu. Romantik etkiler taşıyan yumuşak tarzını Ecole des Beaux-Arts'da geliştirdi. 1868'de ressam Alexandre Cabanel'in atölyesinde çalışmaya başladı. Çıraklığı boyunca iki ödül aldı. 1870 'de " Portrait of a Young Man " adli tablosu Salon'a kabul edildi. Bir yıl sonra, Prusya ile Fransa arasında çıkan savaşa, keskin nişanci olarak katıldı ve cephede yaralandı. Kendini toparladığında illustrasyon ( kitap resmetme) yapmaya yöneldi ancak basarılı olamadı. 1873 ve 1874'de Watteau'dan öykünerek yaptığı iki tablo Salon'da sergilendi. Yine aynı yıl yaptığı " Portrait of my Grandfather " ile sanat kariyerinin en üst noktasına ulaştı.
